Reddit Post Date FinderFind when any Reddit post or comment was published — exact timestamp, not "2 years ago"

Paste any Reddit post or comment URL and get the exact UTC publication timestamp. Reddit only shows you "X years ago" — this tool reads the underlying created_utc field and converts it to a precise ISO 8601 datetime, plus your local timezone.

Reddit Post Date Finder — find the exact UTC timestamp of any Reddit post or comment

How Does the Reddit Post Date Finder Work?

Reddit's UI is intentionally relative — it shows "2 years ago" but never the exact date. The Post Date Finder reads the underlying created_utc Unix timestamp from Reddit's public JSON metadata and converts it into a precise UTC datetime plus your local-timezone equivalent. No login, no API keys, no estimation — just the actual stored timestamp.

Input

Any Reddit post or comment permalink (works on r//comments/<id>/... and direct comment URLs)

Output

ISO 8601 UTC datetime + local-timezone equivalent + Reddit's relative label for comparison

Best for

Marketers verifying campaign timelines, researchers building Reddit datasets, moderators investigating bot behavior, founders citing customer pain quotes

Next step

Copy the timestamp into your spreadsheet, brief, or research notes

Simple Process

3-Step Reddit Post Date Lookup

01

Paste a Reddit URL

Drop in any Reddit post or comment permalink. Works on links like reddit.com/r/<subreddit>/comments/<id>/... and direct comment URLs.

02

Read the Timestamp

The tool fetches the post's public JSON metadata, reads the created_utc Unix timestamp, and converts it to UTC + your local timezone — to second precision.

03

Use the Exact Date

Copy the ISO 8601 timestamp into your spreadsheet, research brief, or campaign timeline. No more "2 years ago" guesses in your reports.

How to See the Exact Date of a Reddit Post

Reddit only shows a relative label like “2 years ago” or “7 months ago” — the exact date a Reddit post was made is never displayed in the UI. There are three common ways to check the date of a Reddit post:

  1. Paste the URL into this tool: the fastest way to see the exact date of a Reddit post. Drop in any post or comment URL and the Post Date Finder returns the precise UTC timestamp from Reddit’s public JSON metadata.
  2. Hover the relative label on desktop: Reddit shows a tooltip with the absolute date when you hover the “X ago” label. Desktop only, locale-dependent format, and you have to do it one post at a time.
  3. Append .json to the post URL: the manual route. You’ll get raw JSON back with a created_utc Unix timestamp that you have to convert yourself — this tool just automates that step.

Reddit Post ID → Timestamp Decoder

Every Reddit post has a short ID in its URL — for example 1j8q472 or qipyif. These IDs are base-36 encoded sequential values, so newer posts have larger IDs. The ID alone doesn’t directly encode a timestamp, but every Reddit post ID can be resolved to its created_utc value by asking Reddit’s public API — which is exactly what this Reddit post ID timestamp decoder does under the hood.

You don’t need to write base-36 conversion yourself or guess from creation order. Paste the full post URL (the ID is the segment after /comments/) and the tool returns the exact UTC datetime.

Reddit Comment Date Finder

Comment timestamps work the same way as post timestamps. Paste any Reddit comment permalink — the URL that points directly to a comment, ending in /comment/<id>/ or any “Share > Copy link” URL from a comment — and the tool will return the exact UTC date and time the comment was posted. Useful for finding the exact date a comment was made when reviewing thread timelines, citing a comment in research, or investigating bot activity in long threads.

Reddit Post Date Finder vs Peak Time Finder

Two different problems, two different tools. Use the one that matches your job:

  • Post Date Finder (this page): you have a Reddit URL and need the exact UTC timestamp of an existing post or comment. Converts “2 years ago” into a precise date.
  • Peak Time Finder: use this instead if you want to know when YOU should publish your own post. It analyzes the past 30 days of top posts in any subreddit and surfaces the best days and hours to post.
