RedditMaster Agent vs Chrome extension — why a desktop app runs better

Chrome extensions only run when the tab is open and the browser is focused. The RedditMaster Agent is a background desktop process — it keeps working when you close your laptop, when you walk away, when you sleep. Here's the full comparison.

Extension vs Agent

Where the Chrome extension stops working — and the Agent keeps going

Six axes that decide whether an automation survives on Reddit for weeks without a flag.

An extension dies when the tab dies

Chrome extensions can only run inside a live browser tab. The moment you close the tab, switch the browser to power-save, or shut your laptop, the extension's background scripts are paused or killed. The RedditMaster Agent is a separate OS process — it lives in your menu bar / system tray, keeps its own Chromium session, and keeps working for days without anyone touching the keyboard.

Extension fingerprints are detectable

Reddit can — and does — read which extensions are injecting into the page. Even a perfectly-behaved extension still announces itself in subtle ways: DOM mutation patterns, content-script injection timing, manifest-loaded resources. The Agent doesn't inject anything; it drives the page from outside the renderer via the DevTools protocol, with the same humanised typing and dwell as a real user.

Ship UI fixes without an extension release

When Reddit ships a UI change — moved button, renamed class, new DOM tree — a browser extension has to be patched and re-released through the Chrome Web Store review queue (days). The Agent's selectors are hot-swappable: RedditMaster's backend pushes a config update, the Agent picks it up on the next heartbeat, and your automation keeps running. No reinstall, no wait.
